Classes run through the week in Pursat: preschool for the youngest children, English, and computer lessons where many students touch a keyboard for the first time. They are taught by our own local team, with Kong Phally and Srey Lin on computers, Yong La leading English, and Keo Sreylin with the preschoolers.
This summer, a group of kids also completed a ten-week Good Samaritan course, learning what it means to care for others.

Every day, our team in Pursat serves two meals to around 150 children: breakfast before lessons and lunch before they head home.
The Community Child Care Program cares for children who have been abandoned. The first idea was an orphanage. Before building anything, the board asked the local team how these children were already being cared for in Pursat, and found that care was already happening: extended family taking children in, and where there was no family, other households in the village stepping up.
So the plan changed to a foster model built on what was already there: the program supports the families raising them with monthly food support, school uniforms and supplies, and local pastors who visit each home regularly. The children stay in their village, with people who already know them. Our role is to make that care sustainable.

This year, Sophanna sat down with pastors from eleven local churches. No stage, no event, just leaders getting to know each other and figuring out how to support their communities together.
And in 2026, Chan Sreylin and Chan Savin's school in Battambang joined Light of Cambodia as a new branch, Sreylin as teacher and Savin as pastor. It came after real vetting: we look for partners who share the same call to relationship and long-term presence, not just an interest in growing. That shared foundation is what makes this one exciting, a team already doing faithful work in Battambang, now walking alongside us for the long haul.

Light of Cambodia's day-to-day ministry is led by Seng Sophanna and the Cambodia team. The board's role is governance, finances, and support; the people who know the community lead the work in it.

This year also included less visible work: 230 truckloads of soil, delivered to raise the property and protect the building before monsoon rains hit.
We have also been planting trees across the property: shade for the children now, fruit in the years ahead.
